I'm constantly struggling with my XLR cables during live shows. No matter how neatly I wrap them, they always end up tangled, and lately, I've noticed some of them are getting damaged near the connectors. It’s affecting setup times and even causing some audio issues during performances. I try to stay organized, but it feels like standard cables are just not holding up to the stress of regular live use. Is this a problem with the quality of the cables, or am I using the wrong lengths for my setup? Would custom-length cables with more durable connectors help prevent this? What has worked for others dealing with similar issues?

Dealing with tangled and damaged XLR cables during live shows can be frustrating.

I would recommend

  1. Upgrade to heavy-duty XLR cables with reinforced connectors (such as Coluber Cable, which has high-quality connectors).
  2. Optimize cable lengths for your setup to minimize excess cable.
  3. Implement a cable management system (cable reels, trees, ties, etc.).
  4. Wrap cables using the over-under method

Best Practice from our customers

  • Wrap cables using the over-under method.
  • Store cables in protective cases or bags.
  • Regularly inspect cables for damage.
  • Color code or Label cables clearly.
  • Create a cable checklist for setup/teardown.

would you share your experience? What's your current setup like? Have you tried any of these solutions?
